Special Education TeacherClassification Exempt 10 Month Employee2023-2024 School Year: IMMEDIATE HIREReports to Middle School PrincipalPrimary FunctionDr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School is seeking experienced Special Education Middle School teachers to provide in-person instruction to our middle school students. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Principals, teachers work collaboratively with other teachers within their department and across other content areas.Desired QualificationsNYS certification requiredBachelor's degree requiredAt least 2-5 years prior teaching experience in middle or high school preferredDemonstrated success working in a school settingsAbility to collaborate with team members.Excellent oral and written communication skillsExperience with educational technology (SMART Board, student laptops, etc.)Willingness to learn and grow professionallyBilingual Extension (Spanish, French, Urdu, Arabic) preferredResponsibilitiesPrepare and implement appropriate lesson plans and meet objectives. Work with the department to complete co-teacher and department lead teach to complete curriculum and unit plans.Collaborate with Admissions Department with new onboarding studentsWrite weekly progress reports on each studentResponsible for classroom management oversightFrequently consult with clinicians andor support about student's therapeutic needsReview and write student's IEP report, LSP, and SAP (I.e., CIA profile) to utilize the data to inform student instructionAttend IEP meetings and submit supporting documentation as neededRequired to attend all student and staff meetingsRequired to attend all Professional Development DaysAssess student progress as requested by Academic DeanComplete attendance sheets and mark students after every period for the following:Manage Paraprofessional andor Teaching Assistants to ensure they fulfill their daily obligationsAccurate recording keeping including daily attendance, grading, and recording student work.Classroom management plete FBA and BIP as needed.Skills and AbilitiesPlan, organize, develop, and conduct comprehensive teaching and instruction lessonsEffectively assess the instructional and educational needs of pupils, and design, develop, and implement sound instructional and educational programsProvide a motivating and stimulating learning environmentWork effectively with staff, students, and publicRespond appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work settingKnowledge or ability to use SIS (student information systems) or online learning platforms (Schoology, Google Classroom, PowerSchool, and Canvas)Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
