Job Description:

In addition to Machinist responsibilities, and under minimal supervision, produces highly complex R&D prototype machined partscomponents by analyzing design for manufacturability, design intent, setting up, and running, vertical mills, tool room lathes, engine lathes, grinders as well as other traditional conventional equipment. Maintains quality andor safety standards as well as supplies and equipment. Mentors employees, andor apprentices, as they complete assigned tasks. Transfers information from verbal requests, rough sketches, or data from part drawings to complete prototypes of the highest degree of complexity and quality. Conducts formal practicum andor curriculum to students in direct support of apprenticeship program. Senior Machinist takes initiative and has the ability to resolve problems without the support of Manufacturing Supervision. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPerforms required inspections of complex parts and assemblies using complicated blueprints, sketches, written andor verbal specifications. Documents inspection results and makes decisions regarding inspection problems. Skillfully uses all inspection gauges and instruments, including their set up, analysis and adjustment. Calibrates measuring gauges and equipment as directed. May lead and assist other inspectors and make set ups for their use.Moves parts and materials to and from work area.Works closely with Engineering, AssemblyTest and Operations to resolve quality issues.Must pass required eye tests, and will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing program.Required to follow company policies (Safety , Attendance etc.)Maintains a clean well organized work teracts with organizational team members and other departments in a professional manner.May be Level I Operator or Level II Inspector in one or more liquid penetrant, ultra-sonic or eddy currents.May be NASA solder inspection certified.Provides technical guidance to all other inspectors in inspection techniques and processes. Responds professionally to questions from peers regarding inspection.Demonstrated ability to resolve inspection issues without Quality Engineering or Supervisory Support.Supports Assembly & Machining with guidance and inspection for new designs, complex features and real time municates with all levels of Management.Provides Inspection support at various company meetings.Works with Customers to resolve inspection issues. Works with Quality Engineering and Supervision on best inspection techniques or processes.Demonstrates a willingness to maintain current knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, andor systems.Demonstrates the desire to be involved with new parts, development programs and company initiatives.Performs other duties as assigned by management.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSRequires a high school diploma or equivalent, advanced technical education preferred. Requires 12 years experience as an inspector with demonstrated acceptable performance of the required inspection operations.Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills. REQUISITE SKILLS REQUIREDWorks from complicated blueprints, sketches, written andor verbal specifications. Requires the use of standard shop math, including trigonometry and geometry, and a full knowledge of machine shop and assembly operations.Understanding of basic electronics, pneumatics and hydraulicsWorking knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & TolerancingWorking knowledge of Quality Assurance Functions as they relate to Inspection and Customer RequirementsSubject Matter Expert (SME) in inspection techniquesEQUIPIMENTMACHINERY USED Experience in using basic and advanced inspection tools and gauges, plus experience with CMM and other currently used inspection equipment.
