Title: IBM DB2 Database AdministratorDepartment: Legislative Data Processing Center, Distributed Systems DepartmentReports to: Supervisor, Distributed Systems DepartmentLocation: B48 Main Capitol, Harrisburg, PAOffice Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pmJob OverviewThe Legislative Data Processing Center (LDPC) provides bi-partisan operational and technical support for the Pennsylvania General Assembly. LDPC is seeking candidates for the Database Administrator role, providing oversight and using specialized knowledge and expertise to implement, maintain, monitor, and ensure performance of complex databases. This role is also responsible for critical Windows web and application servers, ensuring constant availability and high performance.   Interested individuals should possess excellent technical skills and the ability to provide exceptional customer service. Duties and ResponsibilitiesCreate, develop, and review the physical model created from the logical model, ensuring that the detailed physical design of data structures and IBM DB2 databases complies with standards, guidelines and procedures recommended for all aspects of more complex data modeling, database design, and maintenance.Provide support for application staff and business areas regarding more complex database implementations.Establish automated monitoring mechanisms for space and database availability conditions. Establish best practices for database and application high availability through the use of third party technologies and through the exploitation of various database features.Conduct root cause analysis to identify and resolve problems impacting more complex application andor database availability and service levels.Contact vendor support when necessary to facilitate application development and client problem resolution with optimum speed and efficiency.Provide after hours and weekend support as required for on call responsibilities, database refreshes, testing, technology upgrades, and other off hour assignments.Participates in establishing and maintaining technical standards, departmental procedures, and other technical documentation as required. Assure compliance to required Corporate standards, procedures, guidelines and processes, including audits.Identify, develop, and provide technology training to the application developers of the organization (formal and informal) regarding database best practices.Participate as assigned in the testing and recommendation of more complex tools and utilities to improve the effectiveness of managing and supporting the database stall, configure, maintain, and monitor web application servers. Test and patch as needed to ensure security and performance.Responsible for maintaining documentation. Assist in execution of business continuity planning, including preparation and execution of regular Disaster Recovery exercises.Share in providing off-hour support as needed, including Session Coverage and monthly patching on weekends.Assist with Data migration efforts in ongoing transition to WorkdayAdditional work duties may be assigned as needed. Required SkillsExcellent attention to detail. Ability to think critically and provide careful, thoughtful analysis to provide a secure, highly available environment.Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.Demonstrated experience administrating a large, enterprise-level database (IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, etc).Experience administrating Windows 2022 servers.Experience administrating web servers, monitoring IIS.Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to accurately and efficiently identify, analyze, troubleshoot, and respond to complex problems while supporting clients and application developers. Practical understanding of IP addressing basics (including DNS and DHCP).Ability to prioritize and complete assignments independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.Ability to be flexible and react appropriately to changing job assignments, work hours, work environments and work locations.Consistently demonstrates a positive, supportive, and constructive attitude with both internal and external customerspeers in order to provide support.Excellent written and verbal communication.Self-motivated, task-driven, and able to quickly learn new skills.Ability to write technical documentation.Willing to work on weekends andor evening hours as needed.Education and ExperienceAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field, with 2+ years' relevant work experience; or satisfactory equivalent work experience in data analytics, database administration, systems administration, or related field. Working Conditions and EnvironmentExpected to report to the office during normal business hours (8:30a-5pm). May be required to work beyond normal working hours as defined by the needs of the Center and General Assembly. Regular and punctual on-site attendance is an essential function of this position.
