Job Description:

The Tissue Placement Coordinator is responsible for placement and distribution of human eye tissue with surgeons and hospital facilities without compromising the utility of the tissue. Ensures compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Good Tissue Practices (GTP's), Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), and other state and federal regulatory bodies, and Lions World Vision Institute (LWVI). Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). In some cases, the Tissue Placement Coordinator will assist with the packaging of outgoing tissue. This position may be required to work a rotating schedule to include weekends.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReceives requests and supports the placement process for timely delivery of the highest quality transplant tissue for LWVI customersReceives requests and supports the placement process for timely delivery of the highest quality transplant tissue for LWVI customersIncrease domestic and international tissue placement services Become knowledgeable of EBAA, FDA, and LWVIpolicies and proceduresEnsure all tissue for placement has been signed off on by appropriate Medical DesigneeEnsures that all serological tests are completed and confirmedEnsures tissue, medical information and all appropriate materials are within the shipping container following EBAA, FDA and LWVI policiesReceives, enters, data, and processes requests for tissue from surgeons and institutesInteract well with surgeons and surgical staff on donor or tissue related issuesDistributes, packages and makes arrangements for shipment of tissue via airlines, bus, carrier, etc.Evening shift and weekends may be requiredMust serve "On Call" rotationOther duties as assignedEducation and ExperienceDegrees in science, nursing, or training as an ophthalmic technician or related field. One to two years of experience in a related field may be substitute for education. Certified as an Eye Bank Technician a plus but not required.Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.Bilingual PreferredDemonstrate exceptional customer service, attention to detail and multitasking skillsComputer proficiency, including Outlook and Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to interact with co-workers within and outside of the departmentAbility to effectively prioritize shift activitiesBe a self-starter and work with minimal guidance; work independently as well as in a team environmentKnowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology a plusMust have or obtain Hepatitis B vaccinationAbility to work weekends, evening andor holidays as required
