The Dosimetrist is professionally engaged at the interfaces between:The clinical requirements of patient treatment prescribed by the radiation oncologist; The physical requirements specified by the radiation oncology physicist for design and execution of the physician's prescription for each assigned patient, per department policies and procedures; and the simulation and treatment delivery procedures implemented by the radiation therapists. In addition to designing treatment plans that comply with the aforementioned factors, this position has major responsibility for the accurate documentation and communication of all phases of this process for the entire radiation oncology team and the patient. Other duties as assigned may be required.Consults with the radiation oncologist and/or radiation oncology physicist as necessary, and uses the data acquired during the simulation/planning process to design a dosimetric treatment plan as requested by the radiation oncologist per the prescription, treatment planning note, and department policies. 50%Participates in ongoing departmental quality improvement activities such as chart rounds, chart audits, weekly checks, quality improvement projects, error-reporting activities, ongoing policy and procedure reviews, and treatment planning system quality assurance activities, as well as other tasks in collaboration with the medical physicist or radiation therapy team. 15%Develops processes for continued improvement in dosimetric treatment planning in collaboration with medical physicists and radiation oncologists, including implementation of new planning systems, techniques, and protocols. The dosimetrist will have access to appropriate vendor training for all tools as well as continuing medical education opportunities. 15%Assists the simulation staff as necessary to obtain the appropriate patient data and assists in acquisition of outside imaging studies per department policies and procedures, as requested by the radiation oncologist in the prescription and/or treatment planning note. 10%Assists with, and directs as necessary, the fabrication of beam modifying devices and patient immobilization and positioning devices. 5%Assists the simulation staff as necessary to obtain the appropriate patient data and assists in acquisition of outside imaging studies per department policies and procedures, as requested by the radiation oncologist in the prescription and/or treatment planning note. 5%Position Requirements:Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experienceCertification from college or technical school (Medical Dosimetry Accredited Program)Certified by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board or Board EligibleCPR Certification1-year full-time experience as a medical Dosimetrist, including treatment planning for external beam therapy using 3D conformal techniques, IMRT planning including inverse optimization, clinical simulation processes, and treatment chart documentation. Physical Requirements: Below is a list of the physical demands of the job, including bending, sitting, lifting, driving, general office activities, manual dexterity, and vision and the number of hours required to perform the task.
