The Property and Inland Marine Division (P&IM) writes policies in all 50 states and has more than 2,000 independent agents offering our coverages. Our broad range of products include Property, Builders' Risk, Contractor’s Equipment, Excess Property, Cargo and all other Inland Marine classes. The P&IM Division is currently searching for a Territory Manager that oversees the P&IM underwriting strategy and business development for the New York/New Jersey territory. The individual serves as part of the P&IM management team, providing tactical leadership and strategic direction while overseeing a team of underwriters and leading marketing and distribution efforts. This position is in our branch office in Parsippany, New Jersey. + Responsible for P&L of the NY/NJ territory for this Property and Inland Marine book of business including establishment of plan for profit and growth. + Provides tactical leadership to the branch and is a member of the regional and divisional management team participating in management meetings and contributing to strategy and product development. + Has accountability for the risk selection, pricing, retention, growth and profitability (per divisional objectives) decisions made by members of their team. + Empowers employees to use independent judgment and initiative to support business goals. + Serves as a technical expert in and ensures staff is able to interpret and explain products, practices and services. + Participates in formal and informal and quality reviews to assess risk quality and compliance within company guidelines. + Accountable for the development of marketing plan, taking into consideration the strengths and weaknesses of the producers and competitors, divisional objectives and overall market conditions. + Oversees staff in prospecting, appointing, and managing agency relationships in achieving production and profitability objectives. + Ensures that effective business relationships with internal and external customers are developed and maintained in order to attract and retain profitable business. + Identifies opportunities for and may spearhead development of new business and programs. + Reviews and analyzes quality and quantity of results and prepares reports to communicate this information at least monthly. + Plans and ensures that the unit meets budget and performance targets. + Has accountability for the performance, development and coaching of staff (hiring, firing, performance management, pay increases, etc.). Ensures the department has a sufficient number of trained staff to provide necessary levels of service and achieve department performance results. Provides and/or arranges for training as required. + Must have 5+ years of Property and Inland Marine underwriting experience including strong analytical skills. + Expertise in Construction & Transportation segment strongly preferred. Familiarity with Predictive Analytics preferred. + Bachelor’s degree: CPCU, ARM, AMIM, or ARE designations preferred. + Experience managing people is required. + Strong presentation, communication, and negotiation skills preferred. + Excellent relationship building skills are required.
