We are responsible for designing, building, integrating and delivering disruptive and best-in-class solutions and experiences that leverage the Bell Labs Research assets and innovations across multiple complex technology areas. The group innovates and onboards Bell Labs Research to create systems, solution platforms and human experiences into trial-ready prototypes that showcase Nokia Bell Labs thought leadership in future experiences as well as to gather first-hand feedback to refine and align research in the domains. The E&IA Lab is seeking a skilled and high energy Hardware Development Engineer whois motivated by delivery, loves to be challenged, can adapt to changing objectives and is comfortable across multiple diverse technologies.As part of this team you will be developing new prototypes and implement research concepts to a near commercial maturity.We work in global project teams inventing technologies in a fast-moving environment, with diverse applications, challenges and customers who are expecting high quality delivery to tight timelines.The team works with various projects including new device, sensor, machine and robotics concepts to augment industrial automation and human-digital life. Key Responsibilities / Functions: The Hardware Development Engineer will work on the analysis, design, development and review of proofs of concept and advanced hardware prototypes based on breakthrough research concepts. These prototypes lead to customer demos and trials and potential transition to product development teams. You should be a ”maker” with a track-record of building real-world systems. Key responsibilities include: + Design and architect prototype. + Assist in integration with other system elements, debug issues in system. + Interface with software and firmware development teams. + Review system requirements, architecture and design documents and offer feedback. + Prepare hardware specification documents traceable to specs, design verification test plans, document test results. + Set up and prepare lab apparatus for testing as well as debugging. + Execute test cases and follow through with analysis and results documentation and review. + Work across organizational boundaries to investigate and resolve performance issues. + Provide system design and troubleshooting support as needed to support trial/demo issues. + Perform component selection based on cost, space limitations and availability. + Develop CAD designs. + Assist in lab demos/early prototype demos as needed. + Collaborate with Bell Labs Research teams towards integration of research assets and joint innovation implementation. + Maintain high standards for quality, demo experience and pushing the boundaries of what is currently possible. Required Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge): The successful candidate must have an MS degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial design, product design or related fields with 5+ years' experience. + Demonstrated experience in device concept development and device architecture development + Experience with integrating hardware and software and troubleshooting required. + Experience with CAD / CAE tools(SolidWorks preferred), Keyshot or other render software. + Experience in the Adobe suite of design software (In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator) is an advantage. + Strong knowledge in system communication protocols like uART, I2C, SPI + Experience in system design with Ethernet, USB2/3, PCIE, WiFi, BT and serial links + Experience in system power design for low power, high efficiency systems + Experience in high speed memory system design, including DDR3, DDR4, LPDDR3 and LPDDR4 + Experience in PCB design, hands on knowledge on schematic capture and layout. Signal integrity knowledge is a big plus + Experience with thermal design/analysis is a plus + Working experience with programming in C and Python on platforms such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi. + Ability to work and productively interface with colleagues of similar and different disciplinary backgrounds. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Proactive nature and willing to learn + Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment + Demonstrated agility in development experience working on multiple products / projects + Proven record of bringing design from concept to production and hands-on experience with designing, building and testing prototypes + Ability to work independently while also contributing to team-oriented projects in a highly dynamic environment. + Self-starter and highly motivated to contribute to the innovation agenda and make a difference to Nokia’s business A passion for making, tinkering, hacking, designing and a generally inquisitive and inventive nature is absolutely essential.
