To date, the company has deployed over 200 networks - enough undersea cable to circle Earth more than 17 times at the equator. Overview: The Senior Memeber of Technical Staff will participate as a lead mechanical engineer in designing, modeling, and testing undersea fiber-optic cables and assemblies. They will collaborate with management, subject matter experts, other lead engineers, technicians, and suppliers in planning and executing product development as well as define technology paths (roadmaps) and develop detailed technical plans for all phases of technology development, from feasibility through manufacturing. The Senior Member of Technical Staff will alos contribute to hands-on experimental work in mechanical testing, cable processing, materials engineering, and on prototype components and assemblies. Responsibilities: + Understanding of applied mechanics, materials and processing, mechanical testing and optical fiber behavior. + Skilled in design/cost trade?offs and understand qualification testing programs for cable and fibers. + Skilled in quantitative analysis including FEA and mechanical modeling. + Interface with our New Hampshire cable factory, our fiber suppliers, and material vendors. + Travel to oversee cable qualification testing, product line qualification and on?going product enhancement. Qualifications: + Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science is required, Masters is preferred. + Mechanical engineering expertise with a deep foundation in mechanics and analysis. + Must have materials engineering and processing experience. + Experience in Finite Element, Finite Differences and Other Analysis tools. CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, and ANSYS (or similar). + Experience with cable extrusion is a plus. + Must have excellent mechanical skills, engineering insight and ingenuity, and communication skills.
