Description:I.Basic Purpose:Provides site safety and security services on a specific shift and documents those services as necessary. The Line Security Officer is required to know, understand, comply with and enforce all Security Department and MHS Corporate Policy and Procedure. II.Major Duties and Responsibilities:1. Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required. 2. Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration. 3. Accepts duty assignments from Lead and Supervisory security personnel. 4. Ensures proper incident reports, pass on reports, shift reports, logs, proxi-rounds, etc are completed. 5. Ensures high visibility of Security presence within facilities. 6. Ensures uniform, equipment and supplies meets standards and are prepared for duty at the start of and throughout the shift. 7. Coordinates with and keeps Lead Security Officers and Supervisors informed of activities, needs and problems. 8. Provides Security activities to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, patients, students and visitors. 9. Protect MHS property and other assets. 10. Responds to requests for assistance in a courteous and professional manner. 11. Maintain supplies and department equipment. 12. Conducts Safety Inspections, unit level fire drills and Environment of Care rounds 13. Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required. 14. Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration. 15. Patrols hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders. Reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations. Recognizes and corrects safety deficiencies in all hazard groups. 16. Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities. 17. May stand by and monitor behavior of patients who have been designated as involuntarily held prior to transport to another facility. Monitoring includes assuring that patient does not leave the bed/facility, or cause harm to themselves or others. 18. Provides restraints for and on patients as needed. 19. Responsible for seeking Nursing staff assistance for any clinical or hygiene issues that arise during the security monitoring of patients. 20. Receives bodies of deceased patients, places bodies in compartment trays, ensures proper compartment label, and record of death form accompanying body. Releases body to authorized persons. 21. Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from Associates, students, patients, and visitors. 22. Escorts personnel/visitors to parking lots, hospital buildings. 23. Secures patient valuables or lost and found articles; maintains logs of items received. 24. Controls parking and traffic flow; enforces parking regulations. 25. Assists with the enforcement of applicable health system and departmental policies and procedures 26. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. 27. Accurately documents security issues and safety hazards via "CESI Report Exec" software 28. Performs visitor management functions at designated points of entry and documents visit in "Stopware Visitor Management System". 29. Regularly participates in department huddles and department process improvement initiatives. 30. Maintains annual mandatory education requirements specific to position as mandated by Martin Health System. 31. Attends meetings as required. 32. Performs all other duties as assigned or requested. III.Minimum Requirements (experience, training, and education):To effectively fulfill this position, candidate must meet the following: > High school diploma or equivalent required; two years of security experience preferred; > Valid Class Florida Driver's License with a MHS acceptable record; must be able to meet and maintain corporate driver standards; > Valid Class D Security License or certification as Law Enforcement Officer, Correctional Officer or Military Police as outlined by the Florida Division of Licensing required at time of hire; > IAHSS Certification at the Basic Level required with successful completion within 6 months of date of hire. Competency in basic computer applications to include email and basic outlook skills, and electronic report writing required. Ability to function calmly and direct subordinates during emergency situations as well as carry out written and verbal directions. During fires or other emergency situations give clear, definitive and authoritative instructions to evacuees, on-lookers and other persons who may be involved. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
