As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by: - Supervising projects with up to 5-8 Inspectors assigned. - Developing the inspection plan, assigns work to inspectors, evaluates their work, and solves problems. - Performing complex and routine/standard inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used; and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions. - Using higher grade of equipment and performs complex calculations to perform inspection. - Reviewing drawings to prepare for the inspection. - Understanding the design of the construction that will be inspected. - Documenting the results of the inspection and communicates to the supervisor. - Conducting field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation as well as other contract administration documentation. - Inspecting work zones for proper traffic control setup, erosion control devices and maintenance thereof, utility coordination and right-of-way issue resolution. Minimum of 8 years progressive experience in the construction field; demonstrated ability to manage assignments independently, to instruct other Inspectors, and to communicate effectively. Or, High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum 12 years progressive experience in the construction field; demonstrated ability to manage assignments independently, to instruct other Inspectors, and to communicate effectively. Experience: Certifications as required from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI(American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete. Must possess a valid driver's license. Work requires advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; knowledge of mathematical functions including geometry and trigonometry; skill in the use of office equipment such as computers and calculators; advanced ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, specifications, and provisions; review and prepare reports; communication skills and ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods. Preferred Qualifications: - Prefer pre-prequalification as an inspector in Ohio by attaining the following: Ohio certification requirements are Level 1 Aggregate Technician, Flexible Pavement and Structure Inspector - certification requirements exempt if a retired ODOT construction inspector EEO Statement: We attract the best people in the industry, supporting their efforts to learn and grow.
