Apnimed is a well-funded, clinical-stage pharmaceutical company working to transform the treatment of sleep apnea based on a simple idea - patients with obstructive sleep apnea could benefit from treatment with a safe and effective oral medication dosed once daily at bedtime. Our lead development program targets the neurologic control of upper airway muscles to maintain an open airway during sleep. Based in Cambridge, Mass., we are developing a portfolio of novel pharmacologic therapies for sleep apnea and related disorders. The Associate Director, Scientific Communications, will lead the development and execution of a high-impact publication strategy and plan to support the launch for Apnimed's lead compound, AD109. The ideal candidate will be a true medical "triple threat" demonstrating high levels of scientific excellence, business acumen, and emotional intelligence. This leader will report to the Director, Medical Communications, and may be based in Apnimed headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, or based remotely with travel to the home office as needed.Key Job Duties include, but are not limited to: Develop and execute a high-impact publication strategy and tactical plan for OSA and AD109, including abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts, all consistent with the company scientific platform and lexiconCreate and implement the work processes and SOPs for all publications, consistent with industry best practices (ISMPPGPP2022, ICMJE)Develop, track and report the key milestones and KPIs for the publication plan on a regular basisIdentify, select and manage high-performing publication vendors, including contracting, timelines, and budget managementBuild and update core bibliography of relevant scientific literature for company and disseminate relevant new publications internallyPerform literature searches and gap analyses to support publication plan developmentLead internal publication committee to guide publication strategy and monitor publication plan executionManage corporate subscriptions to medical and scientific journalsEstablish strong and collaborative working relationships with cross-functional internal colleagues and external colleagues, including authors, editors, consultants, and industry peersSupport MLR review process for external medical and commercial materialsEducation: Master's degree in health or biological sciences required (MS, MPH, MSN); doctoral degree preferred (PharmD, PhD, DSc)CMPP certification preferredWork-related Skills & Experience 7+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience in medical writing and publications strategyExceptional ability to make complex scientific data into clear, simple, accurate, impactful communications; be a true "scientific storyteller"Track record of developing scientific publications from concept, drafting, submission, revision, and acceptance at top-tier medical journalsOutstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, coupled with a high level attention to detailSuperb project management skills, designing and executing plans to meet timelines and budgetsExperience with publication management software systemsSuccessful selection and management of high-performing vendors from RFP process through contracting, budgeting, and executionDemonstrated ability to think strategically and execute with agility; able to "get the right things done well"Keen ability to quickly and consistently build and maintain high levels of trust with internal and external colleagues.Strong ability to "roll up one's sleeves" and work independentlyCurrent and deep understanding of industry best practices policies regarding scientific communications (e.g., ISMPPGPP, ICMJE)Unimpeached track record of the highest levels of integrity, honesty, and ethicsAbility to travel, up to 10%, mainly in U.S.What Apnimed Offers: 401(k) with company matchGenerous time off for vacationGenerous healthcare benefitsFlexible working environmentMotivated and experienced team Location and Other Information: Apnimed is a privately held company based in Cambridge, MA; we are generally virtual and specific location within the US is flexible.Must be able to travel as necessary.Apnimed is an EEO employer committed to an exciting, diverse, and enriching work environment.Please visit us at to learn more about our work with Obstructive Sleep Apnea
