N. REPORTS TO: Principal or designee JOB GOAL: All nursing actions will be in accordance with the scope of practice of the Georgia Board of Nursing and Fannin County Board policy. To provide limited, immediate short term care to students with an injury or illness until parents of designated persons can be notified and assume responsibility for the sick or injured student. Maintain health records and emergency information on students in your school. The School Nurse (R.N.) coordinates the school nursing program and supports/guides the LPN's. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: The School Nurse will: 1. Attend annually the continuing education update provided by the county. 2. Keep a clean and orderly health clinic. 3. Wear professional attire and Identification badge while on duty. 4. Maintain medical supplies in clinic. 5. Keep accurate, updated health information on students school wide, targeting students with health needs including but not limited to medical procedures and chronic illnesses. 6. Assist in collecting information relative to developing individualized Health Care Plans for students with medical needs. 7. Assist in identifying needs for health education opportunities. 8. Dispense medication in accordance with guidelines. 9. Assess situations and render care to students. 10. Maintain the dignity, privacy, and confidentially of students. 11. Keep daily log of all clinic visits, medications dispensed and actions taken. 12. Follow school policy about contacting parents and releasing students. 13. Report communicable diseases to principal. 14. Consult with administrator about specific action to be taken in the event of a health care emergency. 15. Serve as a contact for hearing, vision, and scoliosis screenings. 16. Observe Universal Precautions while teaching/showing others to do the same. 17. Properly dispose of biohazardous materials, sharp items, and unused medications according to the standards set forth by Occupational Safety and Health Organizations (O. S. H. A.) 18. Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to assignment. 19. Review current developments, literature and technical source information. 20. Ensure adherence to good safety procedures. 21. Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policy. 22. Coodinates school LPN's. 23. Perform other duties as assigned. 24. Demonstrate prompt and in person attendance.
