Key Responsibilities:Design of engineered systems of the largest size and highest complexity. Monitor the project construction activities to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Activities may include, but not be limited to, the following, Perform complex economic analyses of engineering alternatives. Prepare reports and feasibility studies for submission to management. Serve as project engineer or project manager on assigned projects. Promote efficient flow of information and ensure complete and accurate record keeping.Shall keep informed of current developments in the area of responsibility. May assist in the professional development, training, and evaluation of department personnel. Work independently based on general instructions, directions or objectives received from Project Manager or Supervisor. Provide direct supervision to staff designers, CADD technicians, and field personnel. Must possess good technical and engineering design/planning skills, computer, and financial/project management skills. Participates in marketing to clients and of projects and identifying new and maintaining existing client relationships.Prepare and review written reports that explain the purpose, methodology, data requirements, recommendations, and observations of power system engineering studies. Ability to analyze results and develop conclusions on problems being studied. Maintains a program of personal study to expand and improve technical and analytical skills. Act as Resident Engineer on projects of any magnitude. Interpret complex plans and specifications and apply available information to ensure that all project design requirements are satisfied. Maintain familiarity with appropriate engineering and construction codes and ensure compliance with all codes.Prepare and/or monitor complex construction schedules to ensure timely completion of the work. Conduct on-site design or investigation work to ensure adequacy of contractor's methods. Physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections, details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems and associated bills of material. Provide direct supervision to staff designers.Prepare calculation for studies and reports (grounding, lightning protection/DC load studies, etc.) Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural & transmission Line etc.) Develop scopes of work, conceptual designs, and execution of plans. Prepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules. Able to interpret complex plans and specifications and apply available information to ensure that all project design requirements are met.Ability to develop proposals including scope of work that details the established goals and objectives and clearly defines the deliverables and schedule of work to be performed. Design various substation systems of varying size and complexity under direction of incumbent's supervisor. Performing or overseeing quality review of all facets of substation design. Leading a team of single or multi-discipline professionals to ensure project success. Training and mentoring less experienced engineers in their technical and professional development.You could be just the right applicant for this job Read all associated information and make sure to apply.Must Haves:Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred) or in related field from an accredited university.8 - 10 years of experience in engineering of related projects.Strong understanding and knowledge of industry and national codes and standards including but not limited to NESC and NFPA 70 (NEC) and IEEE Standards and other applicable standards pertaining to substation design.Experience with system design software, CADD and Microsoft Office products required.Strong analytical and management skillsExperience with ground grid design of substations.Experience with power systems software packages such as Cape, Aspen Oneliner, CDEGS, WingIS, SKM and ETAP along with other software packages strongly desired.Willingness to travel for site surveys, project scope walks and meetings.Plusses:Professional engineering licenseDescription Summary:Perform a substantive role in the substation design, preparation of specifications, administration functions or field engineering related to assigned engineering projects under the supervision of the incumbent's immediate supervisor or other designated professional engineer. The incumbent must be competent to operate various power system design software tools required for performing the design and engineering tasks associated with electrical utilities substation facilities. The incumbent must also possess an understanding of both basic and complex issues associated with substation structures, components, cable, and conduit system, grounding system, and shielding system methodologies, terminologies, and techniques required in the developing construction documentation for the assigned project.Salary Range: $95,000 - $130,000 based on experience
