The role entails working collaboratively and cross-functionally with a multi-disciplinary team of CMOS, Electronics, and Systems engineers. Tasks will include design, layout and verification of a variety of gain elements, electro-optic phase shiftersmodulators, thermo-optic phase shiftersswitches and passive components such as splitters, couplers and high-Q filtersgratings. The silicon photonics components and subsystems will then be co-integrated in complex systems. The candidate will work with a variety of teams to support the calibration, operation, and qualification of these chip-scale systems. This is a great opportunity for anyone with the requisite background who wants to gain experience in product design, prototyping, and manufacturing.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, Model, Layout and Verification of III-VSilicon Photonics devicesWork with wafer-scaledie-scale tester to develop seamless data acquisitionCommunicate with foundries to develop manufacturable photonic devicesInterface with packaging service suppliers and communicating technical drawings.Generate reports for internal deliverables and external customer interactionExecute current and new projects from start to finishContribute technically to new funding opportunitiesRequired QualificationsM.S. (Ph.D. preferred) in electrical engineering, applied physics, or related field5 years of integrated photonics component or system design and testElectromagnetic simulations in FDTD, Modesolvers, etc. (e.g. LumericalSynopsys)Mask layout in Cadence VirtuosoTaping out photonic devices in a foundry setting (full reticle or MPW) with complex layout and DRCPhotonic component testing experience with standard positioners, tunable lasersProficient in scientific analysis software (MATLAB, Python)Ideal QualificationsHigh-speed RFelectro-optic photonic design and testTCAD simulation (i.e. Synopsys Sentaurus)Familiarity with III-V DesignDie-ScaleWafer-Scale Prober or Photonics Lab equipment automation and remote controlChip-scale Optoelectronics PackagingCommunication with Contract Manufacturing
