Overview: Sprouts Farmers Market is seeking an experienced Director of Inventory Accounting to oversee all aspects of inventory, cost and margin-related accounting functions. The Director of Inventory Accounting will lead the successful application and use of accounting policies, processes, systems and tools to strengthen inventory, cost and margin related financial reporting timeliness and accuracy as it relates to month end close and monthly and quarterly management reporting. This position is responsible for inventory related projects and representing the Accounting team through company initiatives and working with operations on process improvement and store inventory management procedures. This position is based at the Sprouts Support Office in Phoenix, Arizona and manages a team of approximately 3 FTE's.   Position reports into the Store Support Office in Phoenix , AZ Flexible Hybrid Schedule! Essential Functions: Review all period-end entries, account reconciliations, and account analyses as it relates to margin and inventory related accounts with appropriate internal control documentation and support when required. Evaluate, develop, implement, and monitor accounting and operational policies and procedures for owned areas, with an emphasis on improving accuracy and timeliness, reducing risk and strengthening compliance; especially the reduction of manual, Excel-based activities Continuously evaluate internal controls in response to changing systems/processes and work with department leadership and Controller to identify and implement necessary control changes. Build and develop a talented and highly motivated team, including creating establishing and managing goals that are aligned with overall departmental and company objectives. Work with cross-functional team leads and leadership to establish priorities, understand scope, define and refine requirements around cost and inventory accounting, inventory management and systems. Maintain periodic store inventory count schedule with stores and third-party inventory service Maintain relationship with inventory service vendors Create and prepare inventory and margin analytics and reporting to assist operations in improving processes and margins Perform testing to help assure accuracy of inventory costing Assist operations in designing and implementing improvements in inventory management and costing Manage accounting for supplier rebates to help assure that all rebates are properly recorded, classified and applied Maintain support for and facilitate external audit for inventory related items Evaluate the ability of existing processes to absorb anticipated volume growth and create improvements where needed to be able to support 5+ year growth plans. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the organization. Exceptional analytical, problem identification and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of inventory related accounting principles and practices and the analysis and reporting of financial data Possess a strong understanding of retail operations and inventory accounting within a company with 25k+ sku's and over 400 stores. Able to influence others when working across departments to achieve key objectives Strong accounting principles knowledge with the initiative to remain current on accounting and other regulatory changes. Excellent documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis Organized and extremely detail-oriented; ability to manage multiple projects and workstreams.
