The nursery scout works with the Pest Control Department and pest control adviser(s) (PCAs). The primary duties are to scout the nursery and provide information from the field to the PCA(s). This information is crucial to the PCA(s) in forming written recommendations for crop protection and nutrient programs.Functions include but are not limited to the following. Must be able to move freely between tasks depending on workload, season, etc.Monitor and analyze nursery stock for insects, weeds, nutrition deficiencies, and disease identification. Complete daily scout reports. Inform PCA(s) and field management teams of any problems or irregularities in the fields being monitored. Assist on research projects as requested. Gain familiarity with the life stages of crops and the entire farming operation. Monitor effectiveness of control measures used. Other duties as assigned. QualificationsEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Any related combination of training and experience in agricultureHigh school degree or GED preferred, but not required. Specific Knoweldge And SkillsConsistent attendance and reliabilityVerbal and written communication skillsAbility to prioritize tasks and multitask. Active problem-solver and results-orientedExhibit safety conscious behavior for self and othersConsistent, accurate quality and quantity of completed work. Strong grasp on how to observe for typical damage symptoms that are caused by pests and pesticides. Knowledge of insect, mite, and weed identification. Knowledge of agricultural chemicalsUnderstanding of crop requirements and production practicesAbility to organize, write and file field data. Basic computer/technology skillsBilingual in Spanish and English preferredCERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSESValid California Driver's License and have a satisfactory driving record. Pay Range: $18.25/hour - $18.75/hour. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
