Brief DescriptionFunctional Title:OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN:Under the supervision of the Optometrist, the Optometric Technician will be responsible for assisting the medical provider in patient care by performing preliminary eye examinations, conducting diagnostic tests, and educating patients on proper eye care procedures. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for helping others maintain optimal eye health.RESPONSIBILITIES:Conduct preliminary eye examinations by gathering patient medical history, measuring visual acuity, and intraocular pressure, and performing other diagnostic tests as directed by the optometrist.Perform a variety of diagnostic tests such as visual field testing, retinal imaging, corneal topography, and ocular coherence tomography (OCT) under the supervision of the optometrist.Assist patients with contact lens fittings, including teaching insertion and removal techniques, and guiding proper contact lens care and maintenance.Ensure all equipment and instruments are properly maintained, calibrated, and sterilized according to established protocols.Educate patients on proper eye care practices, contact lens hygiene, and the importance of regular eye examinations in maintaining overall eye health.Accurately record patient information, examination results, and other pertinent data in electronic health records (EHR) systems.Provide administrative support such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, verifying insurance coverage, and assisting with billing procedures as needed.Collaborate with optometrists during eye examinations, providing support and assistance as required.Adhere to all relevant healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, and maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times.RequirementsKNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:High school diploma or equivalent; certification or training as an Optometric Technician preferred.Previous experience working in an optometry or ophthalmology practiceBilingual preferred;Proficient in conducting diagnostic tests and operating specialized eye care equipment.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with patients of all ages and backgrounds.Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.Commitment to providing exceptional patient care and promoting a positive patient experience.
