TITLE: Academic Mentor, PHCA Summer Program (Math and College Prep Instruction)DEPARTMENT: Pipeline ProgramsREPORTS TO: Associate Program Director, PHCASALARY: $1,000 Stipend paid at conclusion of 7-week program.Job SummaryThis role is part of a specialized 7-week Summer Program in the Pathways to Health Careers (PHCA) enrichment program. Students in 10th-12th grade accepted into this program participate in educationally enriching experiences that includes public health and mental health course curriculum, Rites of Passage, Math Enrichment/SAT Preparation, and college preparation courses.The Academic Mentor assists students individually and in small groups with the related academic coursework, standardized test prep, and enrichment courses for the Pathways to Health Careers (PHCA) enrichment program .Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesTeach courses in the designated subject area.Work with students who are taking classes to improve their knowledge of academic concepts.Develop an instructional plan (known as a course outline or syllabus) for the course(s) they teach and ensure that it meets college and department standards.Plan lessons and assignments. Work with colleagues to develop or modify the curriculum.Assess students' progress by grading assignments and other work.Stay informed about changes and innovations in the field of concentration.Qualifications/Requirements EDUCATION:Currently a graduate or PhD student. Master's degree preferred.Experience1-2 yearsExperience in education and instruction. Knowledge/Ability/SkillsKnowledge of Microsoft Office and data collectionKnowledge of general officeAbility to meet deadlines and work on multiple projectsExcellent interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive materials in a professional manner.Strong personal initiative to identify problems and follow through (especially customer care related issues).ComplexityThe ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
