Job Description:

NAVFAC EXWC is looking for a highly motivated structural engineer to join their team. As a structural engineer with NAVFAC EXWC, you will manage projects and programs related to research and development, design, and in-service engineering of structural systems by tracking taskings, schedules, expenditures, and deliverables related to simulating blast environments and analyzing explosions.Responsibilities: Performs engineering analysis and design to harden structures against accidental explosions. This is for both in-house design efforts and as a subject matter expert providing technical oversight and consulting for external design efforts. Conducts research on blast effects on structures to develop and incorporate new technologies and knowledge to enhance performance of facilities against blast. This includes the development of procedures and tests to evaluate technologies and to collect, measure, and analyze data related to blast phenomenon. Simulates blast environments and analyzes structural systems using high-fidelity physics-based numerical methods, such as the finite element method and computational fluid dynamics, in support of explosives safety, complex structural assessments, and related RDT&E efforts. Manages projects and programs related to research and development, design, and in-service engineering by tracking tasking, schedule, expenditures, and deliverables. Supports management through written and oral communication with NAVFAC, Navy, and DoD (in particular the Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board) organizations and across different engineering and scientific disciplines to coordinate efforts within the mission of EXWC. Provides technical oversight of other professional engineers, engineers in training, engineering aides, or technicians and tradesmen as needed in the accomplishment of project duties.Must have experience in:Experience in engineering design, analysis and/or consulting for blast effects on structures.Advanced knowledge of engineering theories in structural mechanics, structural dynamics, material behavior, nonlinear inelastic behavior, numerical analysis, and high-fidelity physics-based simulations.Experience with building codes and design criteria for reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry.Experience with research and development for engineering systems related to dynamic events.
