Staying healthy is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. You need to treat your body right and give up the bad habits that are harming you. It’s never too late to make a positive change. Many people in the American workforce work sedentary jobs. Sure there are laborers and other jobs that require you to exercise. Nevertheless, for the most part, work and exercise never coincide. You probably work for forty hours per week or more, so mixing exercise and healthy eating into your daily routine can go a long way. Sometimes it can be hard to stay healthy when you are dealing with the daily grind of the workday, but you need to realize how important it actually is. Following these easy tips can not only add years to your life, but it can also make you happier and more productive in the workplace.
1.) Eat Breakfast
This is one of the most important steps you can take when you are trying to get heathier. Breakfast is important because it helps boost your metabolism and keeps you full until lunch. There are many healthy options for breakfast, like fruit, yogurt, and granola-type cereals. Pick the one that works for you and make a habit out of eating breakfast before your day starts. Also be sure to drink plenty of water as early as possible, as it will help replenish your system and keep you hydrated throughout the day.
2.) Bring Your Own Lunch
Sometimes eating lunch out is unavoidable when you are at work, but bringing your own lunch is something you should do whenever possible. You can monitor exactly what you are putting into your body and you can pre-determine a calorie count. Find some healthy fruits and vegetables that you enjoy eating, and be sure to mix in a lean protein.
3.) Mix In Some Exercise
It doesn’t have to happen during work hours, but you need to add in at least 30 minutes of exercise daily—preferably more. If you have time to exercise at lunch or in the afternoon, then take advantage. It doesn’t matter what body-type you have, people will respect your commitment; so don’t worry about how you look to others if you are overweight. You can also go for a walk, just do it at a brisk pace and expend as much energy as you can. If you don’t have time to do this during the day, wake up earlier in the morning or make it a nightly routine.
4.) Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water will give you energy and keep you awake. You don’t need to rely on coffee to make it through your day. These are the types of habits you should be thinking about curbing. Flavored water works too if that’s what you prefer, but just make sure you are getting at least 8 glasses a day—preferably more.
5.) Always take the stairs
If you’re running late, then get moving. If you work in a high-rise building, the more flights of stairs, the better. Every time you get up and start moving you start burning calories, so try to do it as much as possible. If you invest in a pedometer and track the amount of steps you are adding to your daily routine, you’d be surprised.
Staying healthy at work is key to longevity. As a result, you will have a long, productive career. Everyone around you will admire your commitment. Just always remember to get exercise into your routine wherever possible and drink plenty of water. Also, if you need a snack, make it something like fruit, nuts, or vegetables. These are low-calorie and great for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
