Careers for Car Lovers

car lover jobs

Some people have a deep passion for cars and everything that go along with them. Having a job that involves cars can be a great way to fulfill this passion. The automotive industry is one of the biggest in America, so it’s no surprise that there are multiple jobs available for the right candidates. This make the following positions an attractive career option for millions of American workers.

1.)  Mechanic

There are many ways to land a job as a car mechanic. Sometimes all you need is a little experience. It’s a skill that you can’t fake—you either know it or you don’t. There is also the technical school option. There are many 2 year programs designed to help students learn about how to fix popular cars. These schools are usually a great option, because the career services department will help with your job hunt upon completion of the program. Most candidates find jobs after. The average salary for car mechanics is $38,000 per year. It’s an excellent job for those who enjoy “hands on” work involving automobiles.

2.)  Auto Damage Appraisers

Auto damage appraisers work with cars for most of the workday, but there is also an administrative side to this job. They travel to cars that have been in accidents to determine the dollar value of the damage. They need to be highly knowledgeable about cars and how much different systems are worth. For example, there might be mechanical, electrical, or interior damage, so knowing how a car works and what things cost can go a long way. It’s a great job, and the average salary is $60,000 per year.

3.)  Car Sales

Being a car lover isn’t a requirement for working as a car sales person, but it definitely helps the cause. They need to know how cars work, and the major selling points of each automobile. Since car sales is a commission-based position, it’s not for everyone. There could be weeks where no sales are made, and weeks were multiple sales happen. There is usually a base salary, but commission makes the job worthwhile. It’s not your typical 40 hour per week position. The amount you work translates directly to the amount of cars you sell. You might need to work overtime to push cars out the door—its just the nature of the business. The average salary for all car sales is $38,000, but this includes used cars. Working at a nice dealership can easily net the right sales associate $50,000-$60,000 per year.

4.)  Auto Body Tech

Auto body technicians have a slightly different role than mechanics since they are mainly focused on fixing body damage. Most of the cars were involved in accidents and need quality body work to get it looking like new. This means installing bumpers and fiberglass panels, fixing dents, and painting. Most body techs love cars, and this job gives them the skills necessary to fix and restore old automobiles. They can take a rusty piece of junk and turn it into a gem. The average salary for auto body techs is $36,000 per year, but it’s a great skill to have. There are a lot of jobs available in this field.
