It is the interview attire that offers you an opportunity to create a good first impression with the interviewer. So, after you have successfully landed a job interview, be ready to make the most of your opportunity to dress for an interview. It is believed that 80% of the first impression that you make is formed during the first two minutes of your meeting with the employer. And it's human nature to judge a book by its cover. To ensure that you are appropriately dressed for interview success, you need to know what to wear and what attire looks best during a job interview.
Given below are some important dressing tips that jobseekers can adhere to for becoming successful at interviewing.
Usually, you should dress yourself in tune with the organization, the job position you have applied for and your likes. Even if the work environment in a company happens to be casual, you need to dress yourself professionally for the job interview. Both men and women should dress conservatively and look professional.
Men's Interview Dress
Men should wear a well-ironed long sleeve shirt, coordinated with the suit. The color of the shirt should preferably be white, cream or pale blue. Accessories like belt and tie should also complement the suit and the shirt that you wear for the job interview dressing. A silk tie, coordinating with the suit, gives a professional look.
While choosing shoes, men should go for leather made. Leather shoes feature a conservative look and are just perfect for interview dress. Choose dark color socks to wear with the shoes. Athletic socks are a no-no for this occasion.

Pay careful attention to the grooming of your nails, hair and beard (if you have one). Make sure your hairstyle is neat and professional and the nails are trimmed. Those who have a beard must ensure it is properly trimmed. Those who do not have a beard must be clean shaved with a limited use of aftershave.

Though women have more liberty to choose interview dress colors, it is advisable to use dark blue, grey or black color for interview suits and white, cream or pale blue color for blouse.
Shoes should preferably be leather made and look conservative. Avoid wearing shoes that have open toes and have high heels. Also ensure that the color of your should coordinates with the color of your interview suit.
Limited use of jewelry is recommended for interviewing. Dangling earrings or cheap jewelry is a complete no-no for a job interview dressing. Pay careful attention to how your hair is done. Ensure your hairstyle looks professional. Make sure your nails are clean and properly manicured. Avoid using too much hairspray, make up and perfume.
Always remember that attending an interview needs preparation in advance. At least a day before you go for the job interview, check your attire once again to make sure they fit you appropriately well. Get the interviewing attire ready to wear the night before. It is how you look that will make a good first impression on the potential employer. |
