Applying to colleges is a critical stage in every teenager's life. Applicants need to do some strategic planning to maximize their efforts on college applications. Advance planning is key to gaining acceptance in colleges that you like most. Every one of you has the right to attend a college of their choice. Apart from meeting the minimum requirements, you will also need to maintain the quality and professionalism throughout the entire process of college application. So, how do you achieve success in the college application process? Given below are six important strategies that can help candidates make their college applications shine.

1. Organization is Key
The first important strategy for applicants is to get themselves organized. The college application process includes dealing with several applications, keeping track of the application deadlines and completing multiple other related tasks. If you really want to maximize the efforts, you need to be highly organized to achieve success in the application process. Many colleges will want you to submit high school transcripts, letters of recommendation, work portfolios etc. Prepare yourself for all these things.

2. Concentrate on Leadership or Community Service
There will be many candidates having a similar GPA score like you. How do you separate yourself from the rest? Showcasing your strengths in terms of leadership skills and community service initiatives can prove to be very effective for setting yourself part from other applicants. There are several colleges that encourage community services. Therefore, review all your past activities, leadership experiences and achievements and document them.

3. Common Applications vs Individual Applications
One of the most important strategies in terms of college application process is to decide whether you should use a common application or an individual application. Common applications are available to students online. First, you can fill out the entire form and then take out multiple print copies of it. Though your answers on this form look neat, you need to make sure whether the college you are applying to accepts a common application form. In many cases, schools that accept a common application also have a supplemental application. Know these requirements in advance. According to many experts, it is advisable to use the individual school's application, even when the common application is accepted there. This indicates that you want to individualize your candidacy.

4. Read Between the Lines
If you want to master the application process, you need to go through the college application thoroughly without missing out on even the small details. Don't rush to just complete the application form. Experts suggest you photocopy an additional copy of each application so that you can complete a rough draft. Once you have reviewed the rough draft and finalized it, you can then complete the original application form. If your handwriting is not so good, it is better get the information types on to the application. Don't forget that the first impressions are very critical.

5. Write Original Personal Essays and proofread it Many Times
Your college essays are very crucial to your application process. Do not underestimate the potential of a well written, personal and honest college essay. Apart from being well crafted, your essay should also reflect your personality. Be very honest while writing the essay. Remember, your college essay is yet another opportunity to set yourself apart from other applicants. Proofread your essay as many times as possible to make it completely error-free.

6. Get Feedbacks and Suggestions
Whether it is about strategy planning for your college application process or getting some editorial assistance, you should be ready to ask for practical tips and suggestions. Ask your family members, friends and those who have gone through the entire process. Your school teacher or counselor can also be of great help in refining the entire application strategy. Be ready to welcome constructive criticism. Use the best advice and tips to your benefit.
