POSITION SUMMARY: The Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day safe and efficient operation of the three Paper Machines at the East Walpole Plant, and eight direct reports. The Operations Manager provides operational leadership to the East Walpole team to drive a continuous improvement culture that delivers results in the key areas of safety, service, quality, and cost to achieve business objectives and goals. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:Is responsible for safety leadership, culture, and results for East Walpole operations.Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in accordance with effective operations and cost factors.Coordinates production and improvement activities with procurement, maintenanceengineering, and quality control to optimize production and utilization of employees, machines, and equipment.Participant in union grievance process, negotiations, and disciplinary actions. Ensure compliance with labor agreements and work with union representatives and supervisors to resolve questions about contract interpretation. Provides input and develops Capital Expenditure projectsplans.Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems and to improve product quality.Coordinates with scheduling to revise production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operating problems.Consults with maintenance and engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment to improve production and quality of products.Ensures compliance through teamwork for all Standard Operating Procedures within the Plant.Manages teamwork between Supervisors, Superintendents, QC Department, and Process Engineers in promoting quality, efficiency, and improvements. Ensures adherence to safety regulations, company policy, rules of conduct, governmental regulations, and good housekeeping procedures.Provides leadership to Supervisors and Superintendents in their efforts to effectively establish the priorities for the day and implement the action plans to address those priorities.Promotes growth and leadership to direct reports.Is a member of the Joint Labor-Management Committee & the EW Operations Leadership TeamOther duties as assigned or required.QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATIONEXPERIENCE)Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; andor minimum of five to ten years related experience andor training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Strong papermaking background preferred.Strong demonstrated leadership ability.Flexible and positive attitude towards change and change leadership.Good verbal and written communication skills as well as good listening skills.Ability to handle constant changes and multiple priorities efficiently and effectively.Proficient in Lean Manufacturing Principles & ConceptsPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Work Environment: Regularly exposed to hot andor humid conditions; wet andor slippery areas, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
