CrossTown is a neighborhood just west of downtown Orlando, FL, mostly commonly known as Parramore, that is both beautiful and broken. The community was given this name by its residents, so you won't find CrossTown on any maps or official documents. But you will see it tattooed on arms, etched on basketball courts, and written in people's hearts. Built on the other side of Division Ave, the effects of segregation and racial prejudice have created multi-generational poverty. However, it is by God's providence that this neighborhood would have the very source of hope in its name"”the Cross.What is CrossTown 119?CrossTown 119 got its name from Psalm 119, which is a chapter in the Bible all about truth and where to find it. It says that the truth of who God is and who we are is found in His Word. We see that students are believing lies about their identity, not even realizing they are lies. Since what we do flows out of who we believe we are, knowing who we are is absolutely crucial to us flourishing. Unfortunately, oftentimes other people are defining who they are in a negative way...the community, social media, family, peers, law enforcement, even teachers. CrossTown 119 is built on rooting students in who God says they are.Up until the 2023-2024 school year, CrossTown 119 was only an after school program. This past fall, CrossTown 119 transitioned to being one thing: a school with an after school program. We wanted to go deep with our students.The culture of the CrossTown 119 environment is everything to us. As a school, CrossTown 119 believes learning should be student-centered and teachers should be valued and cared for. We believe both can only be done through truly knowing and loving the individual, not a one-size-fits-all system. The more we care for teachers, the more we care for students and their families. We are building a school around our relationships with each individual student who will be attending our school and making a safe environment for teachers to flourish and teach well.Role DescriptionThe CrossTown 119 Intermediate classroom teacher will help cultivate a safe and nourishing environment for each unique child in a mixed-age classroom (10-13 years old) for the 2024-2025 school year.
