In addition to leading Topography, Liam is the co-owner of Ballyfin, a family-owned, award-winning hotel in Ireland that was founded by his father, Fred Krehbiel.Shaun and Beverley Matthews joined Topography in 2022 and serve as executive directors. Shaun and Beverley have an extensive track record of developing, managing, and advising some of the most extraordinary hotels in the world, including Necker Island (Caribbean), Twin Farms (Vermont), Aman Resorts (Utah, Wyoming, and Caribbean) and Ballyfin.Topography is currently pursuing four concepts in the United States and Europe, with a plan to open all four by 2028.The OpportunityReporting into: CEOThe RoleTopography seeks a seasoned and entrepreneurial CFO to serve on the executive team and stand up and lead the firm's financial activities.This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial leader who wants to create, innovate, and lead. As Topography's first CFO, you will have a unique opportunity to help shape the company, both within the finance function and across the organization. Additionally, this is a compelling opportunity for someone interested in challenging and elevating the hospitality industry. That said, this is a demanding role. Topography is a young company with a lean team. And yet, the team is proud of the fact that it has high standards and ambitious targets. You should expect to roll up your sleeves and work hard. Also, you will be building lots of things for the first time in areas where you may or may not have a lot of previous experience. This will require you to be resourceful, creative, and persistent. Finally, this role comes with an enormous amount of responsibility. Our executive team, investors, lenders, and other key stakeholders are relying on you to deliver. If that's exciting to you, great! If not, then this won't be a good fit.The CFO will serve as a business partner to the CEO and the executive team. The CFO will be responsible for long-range planning, FP&A, capital deployment, investor relations, treasury, tax, audit, and internal controls. Additionally, the CFO works with the executive team on exploring new business opportunities and overseeing firmwide matters. The CFO must operate with the utmost integrity, bring influential and effective interpersonal skills, possess refined emotional intelligence, and bring an entrepreneurial mindset.Key Responsibilities:Build and Lead Topography's Finance Team. Topography's CFO will Establish and Manage the Processes, Systems, and Team to Create an Outstanding Finance FunctionPlanning: Translate Topography's long-term ambitions into clearly defined financial goals, requirements, and timelines.Budgeting, cash flow management, and reporting: Oversee organizational budgeting, accounting, and cash management to ensure accurate reporting, interpretation, and analysis of financial results in conjunction with forecasts and long-range goals. Oversee the cash flow position of the organization, understand the sources and uses of cash, and ensure proper controls to safeguard cash.Management: Hire, coach, and manage a small team of professionals. Within six months, hire an accounting professional to handle day-to-day accounting and reporting, bill-pay, and cash flow management. Additional hires reporting to the CFO will be based on future vestor relations: Ensure Topography has the funding required to fuel its growth and execute its development projects. Serve as the primary point of contact with lenders and investors. Develop materials and analyses as needed. Work with the CEO to manage key relationships.Provide timely and relevant information and reporting to investors.Controls: Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.Banking: Serve as primary contact for banking relationships.Tax: Lead Topography's tax planning and preparation process in collaboration with an accounting firm.Audit: Lead Topography's annual audit process in collaboration with an auditing surance: Manage the insurance coverage for Topography and its pliance: Manage Topography's legal entities and ensure they are following all relevant laws, covenants, regulations, and other requirements.Vendors: Select and manage key vendors that support the firm's finance and technology functions.Real Estate Development and Management Work collaboratively with the CEO and executive directors to review potential acquisitions and developments, prepare financial modeling, and recommend appropriate amounts of debt and equity financing.Review key legal agreements, including partnershipoperating agreements, mortgages, loan documents, subordination agreements, and guarantees as part of financing and construction loan closings and contracts.Prepare and issue funding construction requisitions for all real estate development projects in construction.Ensure that equity draws, project cost reports, and other specialized project reporting for the CEO, investors, and government agencies are completed accurately and anizational Leadership Serve on Topography's executive team along with the CEO, executive directors, and head of development.Work closely with the executive team on overseeing firmwide matters and exploring new business opportunities.Serve as an ambassador for Topography with a wide range of stakeholders.The CandidateQualificationsTopography is seeking candidates who have the expertise, experience, and motivation to be an impactful leader for our company. Specific requirements include:Professional Experience 10+ years of successful experience in accounting, finance, or tax, with increasing levels of responsibilityWhile a wide variety of experiences will be considered, ideally the CFO would come from a complex business within the real estate or hospitality sector (including gaming, hotels, restaurants, etc.). Exposure to real estate development will be an asset.The candidate will have a demonstrated track record of leadership, team building, and culture development. Experience in developing talent succession plans that align with the business strategies is a must. Ability to establish strong peer relationships.Significant experience leading large, complex projects with multiple stakeholders from vision to completion.The candidate will have a proven track record of performance as a finance professional within an entrepreneurial operating business.Heshe will have a strong sense of self and sound judgment with the ability to make decisions and present recommendations with clarity and conviction.The candidate will possess strong interpersonal communication skills.Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field CPA preferred; CFA is a nice to mitment to and Demonstrated Track Record of Excellence with Topography's Core ValuesDrive: We bring an ownership mindset. Please note that this is an average, and that there are peaks and valleys throughout the year.
