Company Overview:openshelf is a seed-stage healthcare robotics startup. We're focused on improving the efficiency and accuracy of inventory in the retail optometry and pharmacy spaces. Our first product puts a tiny automated warehouse inside any optometry office.We're seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the hardware team to aid in building and prototyping systems and subsystems. You will be responsible for designing, testing, and implementing mechanical systems and components for our robots. Specifically, your responsibilities will include:Designing and prototyping cartesian robot arms; designs related to robotics similar to 3D printers is a strong plusInvestigating features to simplify robot construction, installation, and maintenanceConducting tests and experiments to validate your design concepts and ensure product performance and reliabilityDesigning & redesigning components with manufacturability, simplicity, and modularity in mindRapid prototyping utilizing mainly 3D printingUtilizing motion components such as stepper motors, pumps, solenoids, and linear actuatorsRequirements:We are not considering relocation at this time and are looking for an immediate hire. This an onsite role. Candidates must be able to commute to Newark, NJ at least 4 days per week. We are located near a PATH and NJ Transit station. At least 3 years of experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in robotics or automation.Strong proficiency in 3D CAD softwarePreferred Qualifications:Previous experience in small startupsExperience with machine shop tools and prototyping equipment (CNC machines, milling machines, drill presses, chop saws, laser cutters, etc.)Experience with injection mold design andor sheet metal designFamiliarity with Design For Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)Familiarity with FEA toolsExperience working in the retail healthcare industryThis is an opportunity to join an very young early stage startup.
