Quality is in our DNA -- is it in yours?Location: Hilo, HawaiiStatus: Full-timeDays/Hours: 2nd ShiftBase Hourly Rate: $31.51 to $34.66 depending on experienceThis opportunity is full-time during second shift.In this role, you will:Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimensProvide dictation of concise and accurate gross description, including all relevant measurements and orientation information, gross details of the lesion(s), associated findings, staging elements, and cassette keyAssist pathologist with Intraoperative Procedures - preparation and staining of frozen section slides of suitable quality in a timely fashion; preparation and staining of air-dried and methanol fixed touch preps and/or smears of suitable quality.Assist with Cytology FNA smear preparation or needle biopsy.Prepare bone marrow aspirate smears.Maintain all instruments in clean and working order - record temperature and instrument preventive maintenance records.Prepare reagents and stains to meet departmental quality standards. Properly label, store and disposeParticipate in examinations to test proficiency.Neutralize and dispose waste formalin and biohazard tissue. .Perform and documents scheduled preventative maintenanceRecognize when troubleshooting is needed for processing.Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment with biological and chemical hazardsChampion safety, compliance, and quality controlAll you need is:Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and/or experience (laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution) that meet the minimum CLIA-88 requirements.Current ASCP certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (Affiliate or Fellow status in the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants) strongly preferred, but not required. Previous experience in a pathology laboratory of at least 3 years preferred.Ability correctly use anatomic/medical terminology to dictate gross dissections.Computer skills, literate with working knowledge of laboratory information systems.Excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills.Excellent English communication (verbal and written) skills.Ability to operate general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computers, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and audible alarmsBonus points if you've got:3+ years of laboratory training or experience in a high volume anatomical pathology laboratory with gross dissection and autopsy assistanceWe'll give you:Appreciation for your workA feeling of satisfaction that you've helped peopleOpportunity to grow in your professionFree lab services for you and your dependentsWork-life balance, including Paid Time Off and Paid HolidaysCompetitive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insuranceHelp saving for retirement, with a 401(k) plus a company matchA sense of belonging - we're a community!We also want you to know:This role will have routine access to Protected Health Information (PHI).
