In this role, you will:   Perform routine laboratory test procedures outlined in the laboratory standard operating procedures manuals. Adheres to quality assurance and quality control procedures in performing all testing.Correlate clinical information and/or previous lab results and report discrepancies to the Medical Technologist, senior, or supervisors. Consult with superiors or a pathologist when no preset criteria for decision-making are available before taking action.Collect and direct all the essential job duties of a medical technologist and senior and assume direct supervisory duties over personnel and all resources within the lab and/or specific section.Maintains and operates lab equipment; able to detect malfunctions as they occur by reviewing instrument results.  Troubleshoots the problem with technologist assistanceEnsures appropriate lab supplies are always on hand in their assigned area or departmentMay be rotated to other lab locations or shifts as necessaryTrains or instructs laboratory personnel in the performance of lab tests and procedures where assignedParticipates in developmental work on new testsParticipates in established TQM activities, QC testing of lab reagents and equipment maintenance.  Follows protocol for running and documenting control values.  Collects, evaluates, and reports quality management data to monitor and improve laboratory performanceAttends and participates in continuing education programs to monitor proficiency, expand current knowledge, and enhance professional excellence.  Willingly shares knowledge and provides clinical orientation to other members of the staff.Oversees Job Competency/Skills Check programMaintains open communication with supervisors, pathologists, and fellow employees to ensure optimal department operation.  Communicates pertinent information to other members of the health care team in a clinically relevant time frame to enhance the lab's contribution to patient careDelivers age-appropriate care for the patient population.  Maintains strict confidentiality in all situations and with all documentationMaintains and assists with continual compliance as required by standards of accrediting or regulatory agenciesCoordinates and schedules the activities of assigned personnel to optimize productivity and minimize unbudgeted hours. Provides direction and makes decisions concerning clinical lab situationsMaintains consistent service and productivity in an unpredictable workload environmentMonitors personnel performance and documents performance through periodic appraisals as directed by company guidelinesEstablishes procedures and maintains a laboratory department or unit under the direction of the lab manager in compliance with accreditation and other regulatory standardsMay perform the most challenging and advanced tests, examinations, or analysis in one or more specialized fieldsMonitors training and evaluation of MLT/ MT new employees/students along with the appropriate education coordinator and HR staffEstablishes and writes laboratory procedures using computer software for method validation as requiredAdheres to safety, confidentiality, compliance, and legal requirementsMust have reliable and consistent attendance and comply with company guidelines on attendancePerforms all other duties as assignedWork in a fast-paced laboratory environment with biological and chemical hazardsChampion safety, compliance, and quality controlAll you need is:Bachelor's Degree in medical technology or related science from an accredited programCurrent certification or registration as a Medical Technologist such as ASCP, NCA, HEW, AMT, or equivalentValid and current State of Hawaii license as a Medical TechnologistMinimum (4) years of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital/commercial lab setting.
