Job Title: Applications EngineerDepartment: Applications EngineeringReports To: VP of EngineeringSUMMARYThe Applications Engineer is responsible for completion of the Application's portion of the turnkey by developing processes to manufacture customer parts to the quoted cycle time and quality requirements.Ensure you read the information regarding this opportunity thoroughly before making an application.RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for the execution of the turnkey, ensuring that it meets customer requirements, is on time and within budget.Sets tooling and creates machine programs to accurately manufacture the part.Proves quality and cycle time by performing a SPC run off of the process.Troubleshoot turnkey related problems and provide machining solutions.Application of gauging techniques (including CMM, hand gauges, etc.) to verify turnkey process certification.Perform pre-acceptance and final acceptance of turnkey machines both at Chiron and the customer's facilities.Assist in the installation of machines at the customer's site.Travel to the customer's location to provide onsite application's assistance.Conduct training classes for customer personnel.Assist service personnel, customers and distributors troubleshoot machines.Work with Proposal Engineers / Sales staff on application processes for new machines and quoting purposes.Answer customer programming and applications questions by phone.Assist in creating and modifying procedures for qualification and installation of machines.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Minimum of an Associate's degree (or equivalent) in electrical or mechanical engineering or related discipline.Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC programming. Fanuc programming experience desired. Siemens or Heidenhein experience and 5 axis programming skills a plus.Advanced computer skills in Microsoft office and Solid Works, Siemens NX, or MasterCam programming software.Thorough knowledge and application of SPC techniques for evaluating and troubleshooting process variation.Has a wide variety of part type experience in the manufacturing of chassis and power train components in the automotive and/or aerospace industry.High understanding of feed and speeds and types of cutting tools for a wide variety of part and material types.High degree of understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic fixturing.Has the ability to troubleshoot fixtures to determine root cause of failure.Ability to analyze and interpret pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical and electrical schematics and drawings.Understanding of the ISO9001 quality standards.Must be able to travel as needed. Travel is estimated to be 50%QUALIFICATIONS:Self-motivated and customer orientated.Strong organizational and planning skills. Strong problem solving and attention to detail.Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to effectively engage with customers and vendors to communicate and develop solutions.Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to grasp or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
