Websites need quality content. It helps with page rankings, keyword rankings, and revenue generation. Quality writing is hard to find, and website managers have many options to choose from. Usually there is a direct correlation between the cost and performance, but it’s not always the case. Most bloggers work in a freelance capacity, and can charge anywhere from $10-40 per blog article depending on the content and level of expertise. In house bloggers average between $40,000-50,000 per year, but these jobs are harder to come by. Start building up your portfolio and prove to employers that you will do an excellent job.
2.) Web Developer
Working as a web developer is a job that is entirely based online and it’s an excellent skill to have. Many companies have the need for quality website creation, and as a result a need for website maintenance. Many web developers work in a freelancer capacity and charge a flat rate for the whole project. This type of work arrangement will require the ability to scope projects and provide an excellent portfolio / strong references. The average salary for web developers is $53,000 per year. If you charge a flat rate, you can also charge a monthly maintenance fee as you update and improve the website over time.
3.) Teacher
Online teaching is a growing field. Colleges around the United States are expanding their online curriculum. These teachers answer and respond to student questions, administer and grade exams, and facilitate discussions in online forums. With an average salary of $54,000, it’s a great career to consider. You take the same path as a regular college professor to find this type of job.
4.) Translator
If you are fluent in two or more languages you can take your skills directly to the online industry and start a career as a translator. You will be responsible for converting documents, articles, contracts, and websites from one language to another with pinpoint accuracy. The average salary for translators is $45,000 per year.
5.) Virtual Assistant
The main role of a virtual assistant is to assist with administrative and clerical tasks. However, you need to stay flexible and take on whichever projects your clients might need. There are many ways to land these types of jobs, but good virtual assistants work directly with clients and can charge between $20-30 per hour. If you work for a staffing agency, this number will decrease significantly, but sometimes it’s the only way to get relevant experience. You need to be deadline oriented and excellent working under the pressure of deadlines. You also need to be pleasant and professional on the phone, because you will likely be working with clients in this manner. Stay organized and always be on time and you will find success as a virtual assistant. Managers appreciate reliability and punctuality.
