best home based jobsWorking from home is becoming a possibility for more and more people in all kinds of careers.  The trend of working from home is becoming so popular due to the advantages it offers to the employee, as well as the employer.  The value of work/life balance for employees has grown in recognition over recent years, and employers are looking for ways to make their employees happier, as well as cut expenses.  While not every career makes sense as a home based job, there are many jobs that can be performed just as effectively at home as they would in an office, if you have a good level of self-discipline and a quiet work area.  Here are some of the most popular home based jobs of 2016:

1)  Software Developer

Many software developer jobs can be home based, since all you need to get your job done is a working computer and Internet connection.  The job primarily involves writing code for software or computing systems, much of which is done solo.  Some software developers work for one particular company, while others do freelance software development projects for multiple clients.  Be sure to keep in regular communication with clients and/or co-workers, and work hours similar to those you need to communicate with.  Most software developers have a bachelor’s degree, and the pay is impressive, with an average annual salary of $90,000.

3)  Medical Billing and Coding

A medical coder takes doctors’ records describing a patient’s particular case and how it was treated, and translates them into diagnosis and procedure codes for so that the health care provider can properly bill insurance, patients and other third-party payers.  Medical coding can be done as a contract job, part-time or full-time salaried job, or some perform medical coding as a side job for supplemental income.  This is probably one of the easiest and most common home based jobs, the biggest challenge being that you are dealing with sensitive and confidential patient information that must be handled very carefully.  To become a medical biller and coder, you can become certified online through a program that takes about six to nine months to complete, and requires only a high school diploma.  The average annual salary for medical billing and coding is about $30,000.

Being bilingual gives any jobseeker multiple advantages, including greater access to home based jobs.  As a translator or interpreter, you can work for a company that sends you to on-site translation jobs, or you can translate documents and telephone calls, which usually don’t require you to leave the comfort of your own home.  Translating is growing in popularity, as more and more businesses expand globally, which means the job market in this sector looks promising.  The average annual salary for a translator is about $44,000.  Though a bachelor’s degree is preferred in many cases, it is not a requirement for all translator jobs.
