People with Type A personalities are highly ambitious, organized, anxious, proactive, and concerned with time management. They are workaholics who have an ability to multitask and work towards strict deadlines. Type A workers are constantly under extreme stress, which is why is has been scientifically linked to heart disease and other coronary issues. Working at a furious pace can be stressful, but hard work can certainly translate to an exorbitant salary. The important thing is to manage the stress properly to avoid any long-term health issues. It helps to strike a balance between work and play. There are plenty of excellent roles out there that are perfectly catered to those who hold a Type A personality.
1.) Investment Banker
Typically the most successful investment bankers are those who are willing to put the hours in. It’s not out of the question to work 100+ hour weeks, especially for those who are early in their careers. They spend their time researching market trends and developments, identifying new business opportunities, and executing solutions based on financial models. Most of the work is under strict deadlines, and the daily work responsibilities are incredibly stressful. Type A personalities thrive in this type of environment, although they might need to figure out different methods of managing the stress. The average salary for investment bankers depends on many factors, but after three years of service can be anywhere from $200,000 – $500,000.
2.) Business Manager
Type A personalities might experience high stress levels, but their undying work ethic makes them excellent candidates for senior management. Some of these positions might include Risk Managers, Finance / Accounting Managers, etc. There are simply too many positions to name. Those with Type A personalities are usually quickest to advance within an organization because their motivation to succeed translates directly to increased work productivity. Senior management is usually a six-figure job that comes with six-figure responsibility.
3.) Software Developer
Software developers are constantly working under deadlines. The best are perfectionists, because there is usually little room for error when creating new software programs. It’s not as stressful as investment banking or senior management, but it certainly has its pitfalls. It can be a stressful job, especially at companies that produce heavy volumes of products. For these reasons, it’s a high paying career with an average salary of $90,000 per year.
4.) Financial Advisor
Wealth managers, money managers, personal finance workers, and retirement advisors all fall under this category. They help manage finances for others and ensure high returns for investors. They are responsible for the future of others, and their financial decisions could have a significant outcome. The best financial advisors are those who are not afraid to make important decisions. It’s never a perfect science, and some years the return on investments can be better than others. Type A is the perfect personality for this type of position, because their work ethic can be applied to helping clients make more money. The average salary for financial advisors is $75,000 per year, but there are opportunities for bonuses and commission depending on the company they work for. There are plenty who make over $100,000 per year.
