spiritual jobsAs the world and society becomes more complicated, so do peoples’ lives and problems.  As individuals age and grow, many seek a spiritual solution as a way to give their life direction, motivate and help them through difficult times such as unemployment, health issues and family crises.  Likewise, there are many people out there who feel they are in touch with spiritual aspects of the world and the universe, and can use this knowledge and energy to help others.   If you are one of these people, there are a good amount of jobs out there that could use your spiritual touch.

1)      Spiritual Counselor

A spiritual counselor helps guide individuals looking to solidify their spiritual beliefs and practices.  Some spiritual counselors practice within a particular religious denomination, others are non-denominational.  They can also assist with certain mental health issues.  This job requires pretty intensive schooling, usually a doctorate or PhD level of education.  Careersinpsychology.org offers more information on pursuing a career in spiritual counseling.

2)      Reiki Practitioner

Reiki is a form of spiritual healing which imparts energy on the body through work with the palms.  It is used to relieve problems in the body associated with illness, stress and emotion, and is often considered a form of massage therapy.  While jobs in reiki therapy involve spiritual aspects, they aren’t usually associated with any particular religion.  The schooling required for this career isn’t too extensive, usually only requiring some coursework that results in a particular certification, depending on which level of the profession you want to reach.

3)      Acupuncturist

Acupuncture is a form of Chinese medicine that involves the use of thin needles that penetrate the skin at certain points in the body to direct the flow of energy into the body.  It has been used as a spiritual solution to treat conditions such as pain, digestive problems and even infertility.  The minimum education requirement for a career as an acupuncturist is a master’s degree, and if you desire you can obtain a doctorate level degree in the field as well.  The Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine is a great place to start in finding a school with an acupuncturist training program once you have your bachelor’s degree.

4)      Life Coach

The purpose of a life coach is to help individuals make progress and meet goals in numerous areas of their lives, maximize the individual’s potential, take advantage of their strengths and create a life that is most satisfying to their values and inner desires.  Many life coaches previously worked in professions such as counseling or teaching, but there are no specific educational or certification requirements for this spiritual career (though a bachelor’s or master’s degree is preferred).

5)      Yoga Instructor

In yoga, it is believed that the mind, body and spirit are interconnected and yoga practices focus on healing all three aspects in order to achieve a peaceful, centered state of being overall.  Yoga offers numerous physical and spiritual benefits, including stress relief, increased flexibility, physical strengthening and mental tranquility.  If you have a passion for yoga, it should be fairly easy to find a nearby studio that offers a training program to become an instructor.
