Many work from home jobs are not what they seem. Job scams and predatory offers often hide under the guise of a telecommuting position. However, there are many reputable American companies that are hiring these types of workers in a number of unique roles. Working from home can be an excellent career option, but you need to consider the pros and cons before taking the plunge. Responsibility, adherence to deadlines, excellent communication, and flexibility are all important skills for these types of positions. If you are seriously considering a telecommuter job, then start your search at one of the following companies.
1.) Kaplan
Kaplan is an SAT, tutoring, and standardized test preparation company. They have recently ramped up expansion of their work from home program. They are hiring for positions such as student services coordinators, operations assistants, and SAT instructors. Being an SAT instructor will require a high level of intelligence, but it can be an excellent job for the academically accomplished. Online SAT prep is the future of the business, so this is an excellent company to choose.
2.) Apple
Apple has a very large number of work from home employees, with jobs such as program managers, human resource workers, quality program managers, internet marketers, and technical support workers. Working for apple means that you will have to buy into the culture, but if you enjoy their products this shouldn’t be an issue. It’s one of the best companies to work for in the United States, which makes it a competitive environment.
3.) Xerox
This company has one of the biggest telecommuter divisions in America. They have roles such as customer service, data entry, document processing, and project management. Xerox is a huge company that employs just over 140,000 employees, so it’s a great place to start your job search. One you get your foot in the door, work hard and a great promotion will follow. Xerox likes to hire for management positions from within.
4.) UnitedHealth Group
UnitedHealth Group is a health care company that provides benefits and other services worldwide. There are many jobs available through this company, and you can live anywhere to complete them. Some of these jobs include case managers, IT, document processing, data entry, appeals, and community outreach. It’s an excellent company, and if there is an office in your area you should consider taking a look.
5.) American Express
Most telecommuter jobs at American Express are customer service based, but there are many others available. There are work from home opportunities for business developers, travel counselors, marketers, and credit strategists. Workers at American Express typically enjoy their jobs and experience a high level of job security. It’s an excellent company to work for.
6.) General Electric
GE is one of the largest employers in the United States. Most of the jobs are full time in an office, warehouse, manufacturing, or engineering setting. However, some of the previous work from home roles through GE are nurseline RN’s, clinical appeals, internal technical support, customer service, care advocates, and training consultants. Most roles require a solid educational background from a reputable institution.
There are many great companies in America offering work from home roles, but you need to be careful when you search for jobs. Do your research and find out as much about the company as possible and check for any related scams. Many of America’s largest companies offer these types of roles. Sometimes all it takes is asking the right questions during an interview. If you can meet your daily responsibilities and be punctual / professional, a long career as a telecommuter awaits you.
